5th-Jan-2007 10:10 pm - 27th PAD
ET
Well, I have one final checkoff for my in-processing which will take place on Monday morning at the Medical One-Stop at the Solider Support Center. Then Tuesday, I'll head over to the 27th PAD after they sign me out of the 19th Replacement. I've met my new co-workers, I'll be the only Broadcaster in thea crew, but it's a small unit.. and they seem to be pretty decent people. They actually have an ongoing office game they've already clued me in on.. and these guys really seem like they enjoy what they do, so it will be a decent spot for the Army. I'm only one block away from the XVIII Airborne HQ, and we are basically under their umbrella, so we wear the Maroon beret and the XVIII Airborne patches on both arms. It looks like a dragon in a box with an Airborne banner above it.

I've also got the word about internet service, it's available. They have Time Warner Cable service, which you can subscribe to, and I might do it. That also means that my Vonage box will work, so I'll still have my 215 area code home phone line. I'm probably going to change my cell phone to a North Carolina area code for the next few years that I'll be here. I will probably drop the data connection for my cell phone to off-set the cost, since they're nearly the same price. It also means that since it's a private carrier, and not government hosted, it will be faster and my favorite sites won't be blocked.

I've gotten a good idea of the layout of this place by now. I've been through several of the gates and don't really need to grab a map to get my bearings anymore. I also learned that they guarantee us at least one 4-day weekend a month.. so that will be pretty nice. I'm probably going to spend the first one taking a train trip home, to gather up the paperwork I need for that bonus I earned, so I can get the gears rolling on that and have a nice little starter deposit on our wedding.

Katie was in an car accident the day before I left for here, she is completely OK.. thank goodness she was wearing her seatbelt or she would have had more than just a sore shoulder. Anyway, her car is totalled, and insurance is paying her the blue book value for her car. She's looking at cars now, and she'll likely read any comments if anyone has good suggestions for her on some cars with good safety concerns.

Dale: You asked about Sonic. The burgers and fries taste a lot like Wendy's, if you like Wendy's. They also sell long chili dogs and breakfast foods. The Breakfast Burrito is simply awesome, bigger and more filling than the McDonalds one, with some hot peppers in it too. I haven't tried their Texas Toast breakfast sammich yet.
